Szamorodni is one of the most famous wines of the Tokaj region and has been produced for centuries. The meaning of its name, of Polish origin, ‘as they come’ refers to ‘the grapes as they come in the cellar’. Unlike Tokaji Aszú, they are not picked berry by berry, but whole bunches with a percentage of 50% of botrytized grapes, grapes affected by the fungus botrytis cinerea, which gives a special character to the wine.
Food pairing:
Excellent as an aperitif, ideal with foie and cheeses, perfect with fish with creamy sauces or lemon and poultry dishes (duck) with fruits; of course desserts, fruits and nuts.
Tasting notes:
Intense pale golden color, this wine reveals notes of fresh and candied fruits, wild flowers, apricot, honey and dried fruits with light vanilla notes on the nose; as it ages, its acidity gently diminishes.
