Szamorodni is one of the most famous wines of the Tokaj region and has been produced for centuries. The meaning of its name, of Polish origin, ‘as they come’ refers to ‘the grapes as they come in the cellar’. Unlike Tokaji Aszú, they are not picked berry by berry, but whole bunches with a percentage of 50% of botrytized grapes, grapes affected by the fungus botrytis cinerea, which gives a special character to the wine.
Food pairing:
Excellent as an aperitif, ideal with foie and cheeses, perfect with fish with creamy sauces and poultry dishes (duck) with fruits; of course accompanying desserts, fruits and nuts.
Tasting notes:
Pale golden in color, this wine reveals notes of botrytis, soft oak and apricot on the nose. On the palate we notice honey, vanilla, apricot and mango. As it ages, its acidity decreases gently.
